the ``why`` behind the ``woo``
You can't solve a problem using the same thinking that created it.
We ask better questions and create our own answers. Here's how we approach strength:
The Savage Philosophy of Strength
Coaching from the trenches
At Savage Barbell Club, Inc. we believe in training in the trenches as a team, as a crew, as a family. We believe that the best way to get stronger is to do it together. We believe that in the united pursuit of strength, vulnerability is rewarded, creativity is ignited, and true power is developed. We actively cultivate an environment where questions are encouraged, risks are part of the process, and the limits of the human body are explored and expanded. While embracing an Old-School Powerlifting training style, we incorporate new approaches to maximize movement, power, and recovery to build a complete strength-training program that prepares our lifters for life as well as the platform.
The Savage Pillars
This is who we are; this is the bar we set for every person invited to join our crew: an absolute love for the process and commitment to see it through each and every day because we know that when stress and pressure come the level of our training makes all the difference.
We have found that the lifter who comes in, prepared to be present and aware during their training sessions; who is coachable and willing to discover their strengths and weaknesses while vulnerably working to improve on all fronts; who chooses to commit to and enjoy the process of self-discovery and self-mastery through discipline and the application of the other Savage Pillars, will, without fail, become a stronger person, mentally, emotionally and physically.
The C.A.L.M. Method
Intention is the purpose, motivation, or the desired outcome behind our actions. What are we doing and why? All movement, whether consciously or unconsciously, flows from our intentions. Setting intent allows us to act from a place of choice rather than respond from a place of circumstance, to run toward rather than run from, and to actively engage with our environment by harnessing the power of our focus. What you focus on, you give power to because it becomes your intention.
Setting intention, by its very nature creates awareness of the disparities between our current and our desired outcomes. This awareness creates a sense of dissonance – of tension – between where we are and where we are going. How we define, interact with, and harness this tension ultimately determines not only our success with relation to goal attainment, but our decision making and sense of enjoyment along the way.
If access to equipment or programs was all you needed, you wouldn't be reading this right now.
The fitness industry is F**ked. We're changing the rules.
Walk in to any gym, buy any program, try any diet, or hire any coach and they will, likely, give you the answers to the questions you ask. They will sell you the solution to your stated goal and tell you exactly what to do and how to get there. You’ve likely hired, bought, and enrolled into one of these solutions in the past and experienced the successes and pitfalls of each of them.
The shitty ones didn’t work or got you hurt. The decent ones worked for a short time. The good ones worked for longer, but at the expense of the rest of your life.
A great plan meets you exactly where you are and grows with you. A great plan teaches you how to think for yourself, ask better questions, and walk the path of progress, adapting when necessary. A great plan fortifies the entire person, not just the body.
Because of this, we don’t believe that you can separate the training of the body, mind, and emotions, and that all three must be strong and integrated to create a high-performance athlete and human being, so our program builds all three.
We don’t believe in one-off workouts or 6 week challenges, or 12 week magical training cycles, so our memberships reflect that.
We don’t believe that you can achieve maximal performance without addressing EVERYTHING that goes into performing and recovering from training: Maximal-Effort work, Dynamic-Effort work, Integrative-Effort work, Breathing, Posture, Athletic Movement, Work Capacity, Nutrition, Recovery, Stress Management, Hydration, Personal Development, Interpersonal Communication, and Decision Making. So, all of our members receive support in those aspects of their development.
We recognize that we approach strength differently, and that our program may not be the best fit for everyone. Not everyone will be willing to embark on the journey of Self-Discovery & Self-Mastery that pursuing true Strength will require of them. So, we don’t want just anyone to join our crew(s).
